Finally applied for our PR status
My wife and I went to the ICA building today to file our PR application and submit our documents. I really love government offices and buildings here in Singapore. They’re all so organized, clean and fully airconditioned. I wish it was the same back in Manila.
We went in, got our queue number and just waited. When we were finally called, we went up to the counter and the lady went through our documents and application form. I was quite nervous, thinking if I had all the needed documents with us. We did.
After spending an hour for the application, we then went on to Bugis Junction for lunch. It was only around 2PM when we finished lunch so we decided to walk around and take photos. We wanted to see Bugis Street. I also thought this would be a good time to practice using my FD lenses.

I need to remember to change the aperture on manual lenses. The whole set, my aperture was at 2.8 (was using a 28mm f/2.8).
Oh, and also finally got my copy of Windows 7 Home Premium. The pain of reinstalling starts now.
My Windows 7 RC1 is dying in 3 days
My Windows 7 installation keeps nagging me about me needing to upgrade to the retail version. When I first got it in January, it felt I still had a lot of time. Just now, it popped up and said 3 days is all I have left.
Better go to Funan and grab my copy. I hope I can find some way to upgrade from RC1 to retail without having to do a re-install.
Tonight’s laundry night
Did some practicing with my Canon FD lenses. Randomly shot things inside our home while trying to quickly get the focus right by estimating the distance and turning the focus ring in the right direction. It’s a fun activity. Next time, I’ll try it outdoors.
Like this photo says, tonight’s laundry night and at the same time, need to prepare the documents needed for our Singapore PR application tomorrow. I hope our application gets approved. But we won’t know that till another 2 or more months.

Chinatown, Singapore
My wife and I met up at Chinatown after office to take some photos. She was off work that day so she was able to get clear day shots as well. I didn’t have my E-P2 with me so used my G11 instead.
Chinatown was not as busy as I last saw it. Probably it was because it’s a working day. Still, the place was vibrant and heavily red because of the recent Chinese New Year celebration.
After loading up the shots into ALR, the photos were so noisy/grainy that the only way I could use them was by changing them to black and white. I’ll try this again – with my E-P2 and with colors.

Through the door peep hole
Was playing with my Canon G11 when this idea came to my mind after hearing our neighbor opening their door gate. Turned out quite interesting and weird at the same time.
Orchard walk on Valentine’s day
My wife and I went for a walk along Orchard on Valentine’s day. It was also the start of the Lunar New Year so we saw a lot of kids wearing cute chinese silk dresses. We saw these two beautiful kids while we were resting.

Bought my wife her first camera yesterday as my Valentine’s Day and CNY gift to her. I’m really glad she liked it. Today we’re on our way to take some photos and she just won’t stop shooting :)
Valentine’s day & the long CNY weekend
No work today, then the weekend, then the 2-day Chinese New Year holidays. 5 long days! My wife and I were trying to book a holiday trip to either HK or Cambodia last January. Unfortunately, all the ticketing offices and travel agencies we talked to said they’re all fully booked. They told us that a lot of Singapore residents book holiday trips during the long CNY break as early as October the previous year. Now we know.
Valentine’s day! Every year, it gets harder and harder to think of a gift for my wife. I’m running out of ideas! Though just this morning, I finally figured out what to give her. I’m sure she’s going to love it :)

Everyday, for almost 3 years now, I’ve been going through this train station to and from work. Only today, after going home early did I notice that the sun set could be seen from here.
The sun looked bigger in real life, but having no other camera with me but my iPhone’s, I took this shot.
Exposure for this shot was lowered a bit using Photoshop Mobile, and then was uploaded using the Flickr app.
You just gotta love the iPhone.
I want to take nice photos
Recently, my wife and I have been watching a lot of travel shows on cable, and have been looking at a lot of photos on the web – people, their experiences, great moments that can go unnoticed if not photographed. These are the things attracting us to photography.
I don’t want to be a photographer. I think it requires a lot of creativity, patience and talent. I don’t really have those, but still, I want to take nice photos. They say photography is like fishing – you will have to cast your line a hundred times, but every now and then, there’s that big prize-winning catch.
